Usual is built so that this policy can be short. There is no account, no sign-up, no server operated by us, and no analytics or tracking of any kind.

Everything you save stays on your device

The people, venues, notes, conversations, and photos you save in Usual are stored only in the app's private storage on your iPhone. We cannot see them, and they are never transmitted to us — we have no server to send them to. Your data is included in your normal iCloud device backup (controlled by your iOS settings), and you can export it at any time as a file you own.

The one thing that leaves your phone

When you search for a venue, the text you type and your approximate location are sent to Apple Maps and OpenStreetMap (Nominatim/Overpass) to suggest places, the same way any maps app works. Nothing about your saved people or notes is ever included in these requests.

Permissions, and what they're for

Location (While Using) — sorts your places by distance and powers venue suggestions. Optional.
Location (Always) — only requested if you turn on arrival notifications, which are off by default. Geofencing runs on your device; no location history is stored or transmitted.
Contacts — only accessed when you tap the import button to copy a phone number into the app. Nothing is uploaded.
Photos — only accessed when you choose to attach a photo to a person. The photo is copied into the app's local storage.
Notifications — used solely for the optional, locally generated arrival heads-up.

What we collect about you

Nothing. No identifiers, no usage analytics, no crash-reporting services, no advertising SDKs.

Deleting your data

Delete anything inside the app at any time, or delete the app to remove everything it stored on your device.

Changes & contact
